"Police / Community Conflict Management: A Different Perspective"
Over the last 4 years mediation has had an impact on Police/Community relations through the Police/Community Reconciliation Program.  In this presentation we will look at the program in more detail and look at learn about the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s techniques for de-escalating conflict.

James ArmendarisProgram Manager, Police Community Reconciliation ProgramOC Human Relations

James received his senior certification in mediation in 1998. He joined the OC Human Relations in 2001 as a mediator and has mediated court and community cases.  He has trained and certified mediators in basic mediation for HRC since 2001. In 2008 James was hired by the County of Orange as the Program Manager of the Police Community Reconciliation Program.  This program works in collaboration with the OC Sheriff’s Department to address low level complaints against OC Sheriff’s personnel.  The program has also been utilized by city police agencies across Orange County as a way to enhance Police Community Relations. James is also a Post Certified Instructor at the Sheriff’s Basic Training Academy in Tustin.

Captain Linda SolorzaSouth Operations Division Orange County Sheriff’s DepartmentCaptain Solorza is a twenty-five year veteran of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.  Her previous assignments include: Corrections and Custody, Operations, Investigations, Homeland Security and Chief of Police Services for the City of Laguna Niguel, and the Professional Standards Division.  She is currently assigned to the South Operations Division where she oversees police services for 10 South County cities.
